Jenee Koci

My Bookkeeping and Small Business Owner journey. 

Hi everyone! My name is Jenee and I am the owner of Maximize Bookkeeping. I thought I would tell you a little about my self, my journey, and what led me to bookkeeping. 

​

I graduated Oregon State University in 2010 and didn’t really have a clear career in mind. I got married, moved to NYC, moved back to Oregon and began working in property management. While I am grateful for that job and the opportunities it afforded me, it was not something I enjoyed. The major thing I took away from that job was that working in a corporate environment was something I did not want to do. My passion is with small business and family owned business.

Since the age of 14, I had worked at the family owned theme park just south of Salem, Enchanted Forest. My sister, married the creators grandson and they have become a part of my family. I mention this because, I believe working here (sometimes part-time and sometimes full-time) for almost 20 years really shaped my love for small/family owned businesses. 

​

In 2015 after my daughter was born I decided not to return to my job which only offered 8 weeks of non-paid leave. Shortly after I also had a divorce. So I found myself needing to find a career that provided for me and my daughter. I have my daughter 100% of the time and we are on our own. 

​

After, quite a bit of stress trying to find something, I stumbled upon being a virtual bookkeeper. It was perfect for my situation. I was able to work from home (affording a mortgage and daycare is no joke on a single income) and make my own hours, as well as provide a valuable service for the small businesses that I love.   

 

I now do a job I love and am able to provide for my family of two with minimal stress over finances. The work/life balance is very important to me and I love that I am able to help my clients achieve that as well. 

 

As far as non-work related hobbies, I love spending time with my family. Anything around or with water, I’m all for. I read constantly, love table top games, anything true-crime related (podcasts & documentaries, or actually any type of documentary) and I love to binge a good British Procedural.
